Community Service

Make a Difference

While attending Cristo Rey Newark High School, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to make a difference in the school and Greater Newark community. Each year, our students contribute thousands of service hours to build a stronger school community, as well as improving the condition of neighbors who are homeless, hungry, elderly, sick or imprisoned. Faculty and staff guide students to identify meaningful opportunities to help others.

Since service is integral to the Catholic Church, it’s worked into the curriculum at Cristo Rey Newark High School. All freshmen and sophomores must complete a minimum of 40 service hours, while juniors and seniors spend 50 or more hours serving others. By the time they graduate, Cristo Rey Newark High School students complete a minimum of 180 service hours and develop a strong commitment to raising up those who are less fortunate.
