Student Support Services
Supporting Your Success
During high school, every student faces challenges that can get in the way of their studies. The professionals at Cristo Rey Newark High School are here to help. We’ll work with you one-on-one to connect you with people who will support and guide you throughout high school.
Healthy students are successful learners. The school nurse supports the physical, mental, emotional and social health of all students at Cristo Rey Newark High School. The nurse provides direct care to students who are injured or have acute illnesses, and also identifies resources that have a positive impact on the health of individual students and our school community. In addition, this dedicated professional serves as a liaison between the school, our families and healthcare providers.
School Social Services
Cristo Rey Newark High School students who need extra support may be referred to the School Social Services Program administered by the Archdiocese of Newark.
The program offers at-risk students, their families and school staff with a variety of direct social services, including:
- Master’s-level professionals, who meet with students, parents and teachers to provide a thorough assessment of the problem, often resulting in short-term individual counseling, group counseling or play therapy, offered on-site at Cristo Rey Newark High School
- Support groups for students coping with bereavement or loss, family issues such as separation or divorce, illness or disability, peer difficulties, etc.
- Crisis intervention services, which provide an immediate response to students and staff after a traumatic event at the school
- Timely referrals to a variety of community providers including medical, psychological, financial, immigration and pastoral services
